Working with Gray Puksand, Electrolight was engaged to design the lighting to all front and back of house areas of the CBA’s sustainably designed flagship branch. The design intent for the lighting was to create a dynamic space to work in and do business in. Electrolight recognised the importance of the space for CBA staff and the facilities required to ensure that staff have optimum working conditions and a pleasing, functioning environment.
One of the challenges facing Electrolight was balancing the elements of the original building and lighting scheme with the newly designed areas and modern feel. We sought to seamlessly integrate lighting into both the existing and newly developed infrastructure.
We recognised that lighting plays an important role in the retail context, creating a vibrant and exciting space and assisting in people’s orientation and movement. The lighting scheme was designed to create a direction or path of travel for CBA’s customers and reinforce wayfinding. The scheme highlights points of focus such as tellers and service stations and compliments architectural features such as tile lines in the floor.
Metal halide, fluorescent and LED light sources are used throughout the branch. The new lighting scheme meets the energy efficiency criteria of the BCA. In the refurbished areas of the branch, the quantity of lights and power consumption has been substantially reduced.
Long-life light sources have been selected and are all accessible for easy maintenance.
