With environmental and social sustainability principles central to the redevelopment project, the design challenged traditional retail perceptions, creating a vibrant public realm with strong connections to the surrounding environment, landscape and community being created.
Working alongside Grimshaw Architects and The GPT Group, Electrolight designed a lighting scheme which, we believe, provides a perfect companion to architecture. The lighting scheme has been designed to augment the architecture and interior design, in particular the expression of the crescent shaped ceiling and skylight void, which creates views that change and unfold as the shopper moves through the space.
Commissioned by the construction company and not the first lighting designer to be appointed to the project, budget was at the forefront of our design thinking. Our brief was to create a vibrant retail offering within a strict price regimen. The scheme utilises LED, Metal Halide and Fluorescent Sources carefully detailed into the architecture to enhance and celebrate the materiality of the space. Environmental considerations were of paramount importance and although the project did not have GreenStar aspirations, light has been thoughtfully and responsibly applied.
