Description

The design and construction team that worked on QT Queenstown were very professional, co-operative and communicative throughout the whole project. As we all know, this is paramount to a successful outcome for any construction project. Having a concise brief from the client and design team from the early stages of the project meant that the lighting could be applied with a considered approach and integrated seamlessly to create an accurate balance of layering and contrast.

The Rydges Reception at the Ground Floor creates the first impression for the renowned hotel. The perimeter light box creates a luminous backdrop, creating a soft welcoming beacon. Bespoke pendants and wall lights produce an encompassed haven for guests seated in the waiting area.

In contrast to the Rydges Reception, the QT Hotel reception desires a much more moody ambience, adding to the drama and edgy aesthetic. Theatrical spots of light illuminate the interior features and floor making the space feel more like a sophisticated bar than a hotel reception.

From the initial stages of the project, a common language was created for the bespoke lighting within the Guest Rooms. This later realised cost benefits by streamlining the manufacturing process of the bedside and credenza luminaires. A subtle lighting mode can be experienced in the bathrooms for guests to enjoy a warm bath after a long day on the ski slopes.

Creating a comfortable mood and ambience was a key element for the lighting to the public spaces. The gourmet buffet meal offerings in the Bazaar provide a family friendly atmosphere throughout the day, in contrast to the late night dining where a subdued ambience is desired for couples that have escaped on a romantic adventure. Multiple lighting modes were created and fine tuned on site to suit the adapting environment throughout the day. Factoring in the time of the sunset each day, the downlights gradually dim down, enabling the bespoke feature pendants, wall lights and accent joinery lighting to become prominent. The balance was carefully curated to ensure that the lighting did not detract from the incredible sunsets that can be observed from the Bazaar and Reds Bar.

Overall budget challenges in the later stages of the project meant that every luminaire had to be scrutinised and rationalised, whist retaining the original concept design intent. Thanks to the project team, we believe that a successful outcome was achieved.
