On Monday we were very proud to unveil our latest works – Silence and Falling Light – at the newly refurbished Hamer Hall in Melbourne.
On the circle level Velik Foyer, Falling Light is made up of a large ceiling mounted aluminium panel, patterned with perforations arranged such that an image of silver nitrate under a micron microscope is revealed. Behind the perforations are over 1000 LEDs with a restricted palette of colour gels attached to a black wool ‘star cloth’, programmed serenely fade in and out to create myriad constellations beyond the panel.
The opening was the culmination of over a year’s collaboration between our practice and Fine Art Services, Robert Owen’s production studio with Joanna Buckley. Electrolight is indebted to the talent, creativity, dedication and tenacity of Rachel Burke, Christopher Knowlton and Elisha Howard for making this project a success. Also to the studio assistance of Breanna Tepper, Elle Ward and Lucas Maddock and the installations by Jeph Neale and Luke Adams.
Hamer Hall opens to the public on July 26. See here for programme of events to celebrate the opening
