Shrine of Remembrance, Melbourne

Electrolight began working with ARM Architecture and Cunningham Martyn Design on the design of the expansion and refurbishment of Melbourne’s Shrine of Remembrance in 2012. The project features a new gallery and underground education space with facilities for exhibitions, community research, and schools’ programs.  The project budget was in the order of $45m.

Electrolight was engaged to design all front of house lighting as well as the lighting to the exhibition which included the Devanha Boat, one of only two remaining boats that participated in the Gallipoli Landings in 1915. The project was timed to be complete in time for the centenary of this event.

We worked closely with CMD to develop the lighting effects to the back-lit graphic panels, a central feature of the display of the Devanha Boat.  The lighting is controlled by a sophisticated DMX controller which provides theatrical effects.
