Westgate Freeway Portals

The design intent for the lighting was to create a distinctly different feeling for the nighttime appearance which contrasted with the daytime effect. During the day the archways are massive structures of grey aluminium which dominate the skyline.
They are lit at night to reveal only the inner surface of the arch, creating an experience for drivers passing through the ‘blue zone’, which is designed to create a contrast with the predominantly orange sodium lighting in the vicinity.
