We have come across a wonderful lighting design and installation firm based in Greece called Beforelight. Check out their website because they have done some very cool stuff.
At Electrolight we love to play in the community space, engaging with the wider public through light. But these guys take it to another level.
One of their works is called Serial Bulb Killer – an array of light bulbs are installed on a wall. Some pebbles are placed on the ground nearby. Visitors, acknowledging that a CCTV camera is watching them, have to decide whether to observe the installation as it is or to throw the stones at the installation and hence change it forever.
In another gig ‘Under a Different Light’ they asked residents Thessaloniki to donate their old light fittings which were then repaired and hung in a laneway. The residents were invited to a massive street party under the soft glow of the donated lights. Absolutely brilliant, looks like they had a ball!
To all at BeforeLight: Respect; we love your work.
