On Friday October 7th, the IES: The Lighting Society held the NSW Chapter Lighting Design Awards Gala to celebrate the the states best projects of 2016. There was a record number of entries this year, with 38x Lighting Design submissions. This year saw 3x Excellence Awards and 9x Awards of Commendation presented over a broad scope of projects.
Electrolight were thrilled to receive a total of 3 awards, with 1 Excellence and 2 Commendations. In addition our very own Stephanie Shehata received a Lighting Sculpture and Installation Design Award of Commendation for her Vivid installation. The following were the judges comments.
The Farm Residence, Gerroa – LiDA Award of Excellence 2016: “This private residence was masterfully lit in a way that places the lighting second to the architecture, raising its architectural form to it’s best. The design showed sensitivity and a high level of detail was applied to achieve an outstanding outcome.”
El Camino Cantina – LiDA Award of Commendation 2016: The atmosphere of this Cantina is created entirely by light. It is fun and creative, delivered a festive feel and was perfectly tacky as a Taco.”
Event Head Office, 478 George Street Sydney – LiDA Award of Commendation 2016: “The lighting design concept responded well to this office interior. Detailing of the furnishings was well considered and there was good consideration given to enhancing the interior architecture.”
Momentum – LSiDA Award of Commendation 2016: “Monument was a beautifully constructed series of vitrines, housing geometric forms of dichroic acrylic, each simply turned by a hand winch. The judges found the work displayed differing visual characteristics at a distance which gave the work a dual impact.”
The night was a fabulous way to cap off such a rewarding year for the Sydney Team and recognise the brilliance of our client’s and collaborators.
