A Fine Possession

MAAS Powerhouse Museum, Sydney, Australia

A Fine Possession lighting design by Electrolight

Description

A Fine Possession invites visitors to view and experience over 700 objects, each holding an inherent value to those who have owned them. This experience looks to display the diversity and magic of each item in a universal way, allowing light to exhibit why these objects have become such special items.

The brief for lighting was a combination of both specific requirements and creative license. Although there were a number of strict boundaries, exactly how the illumination was delivered was open to our interpretation.

Due to the sensitive nature of the objects, consultation with the MAAS conservation department was a necessity. Most of the objects had strict illumination limits which had to be fully understood prior to the final design. Regardless of UV content and IR (heat), these limitations restricted lux levels for various objects down to 50 lux.
