Unique, theatrical, whimsical, ethereal, precise and minimal.
The lighting design for Absinthesalon Melbourne underlines the bohemian feel and ritual mood of a place far, far away. The journey begins by entering a warehouse building covered in graffiti murals. Adjacent is a stack of containers glowing with green light.
The Main Bar features a breath-taking field of glowing tulips suspended from the ceiling above. Veins of light are feeding the tulips, their petals creating small lanterns that provide an angelic and delicate glow. Precise illumination of the fountains on each table creates an intimate hub for small groups. The bar displays illuminated Absinthe bottles and wall murals accented with spots of light surround the scene.
The outdoor terrace walls are constructed from IBC containers, transformed into one big glowing lantern at night. Each of the containers is internally illuminated by an individual light source in an absinthe inspired green. Slow dimming is programmed to create an impression of fluid motion.
Entry to the bathrooms is dominated by a custom floor lamp inspired by the distillation devices. Multiple light sources inserted into lab bottles create a dramatic play of light and shadow on surrounding walls.
