Description

Located in the heart of the developing precinct of North Sydney, One Denison provides a prestigious offering to its tenants such as an in-house concierge service and dedicated wellness centre. It was therefore important that the building entry and lobby reflected this entirely, so people sense the premium quality of this offering on arrival.

Over eight meters tall, the travertine walls that flank the ground floor lobby are illuminated with continuous grazer optics. These continue around the radius corners to ensure a seamless result.

Over the cafe ninety luminous pendants custom designed and manufactured specifically for this project are suspended in a perfect grid over the cafe creating an impact on masse. A high degree of detailed integration for lighting within the joinery required careful coordination with the design and construction team throughout the entire process to allow the lighting design concept to be realised.

The feature artwork piece by Nike Saavas within the Through-site Link displays a vibrant geometric effect as commuters walk through the space. The artwork was proposed during the later stages of construction, so there were challenging restrictions on where the lighting could be installed. Many tests were undertaken and coordinated with the artwork manufacturer Tilt to perfect the approach, providing a consistent illumination with concealed sources.

The building had high Greenstar aspirations, but the client and design team agreed that lighting to the crown was essential for the character of the building at night. The challenge was in it’s execution and integration to meet the Greenstar requirements of minimal light pollution. Installing the luminaire inside a custom designed reflector extrusion meant that the source could be concealed and controlled, allowing the surface area of illumination to be increased and the intensity lowered for an effect that could be seen across the city. Adding coloured light to this element meant that the visual impact was still noticeable against the backdrop of internal lighting and neighbouring towers.
