On arrival to the Level 12 Reception Lobby, visitors are taken on an immersive journey through the lift landing experience, exiting into the main arrival space. Two ‘lantern’ inspired meeting pods create an over-scaled embellishment to the double height volume – sitting as the primary light sources for the space. Lighting is stitched throughout the combination of refined and raw interior elements to provide a luminous back-drop to the double-height glazed western elevation. The entire space is tuned to morph throughout the day through a series of synchronised colour temperatures and balanced intensities, with Morning / Midday / Afternoon / Night / Late-Night settings driven by the 365-day timeclock. The design brings the outside in, embracing natural light from the adjacent terrace overlooking George Street.
The lighting scope was inclusive of all areas for the 3x levels – so the finessed visual experience strategy was taken to all work spaces. The combination of integrated detailing and use of luminance to shape the space and create comfortable and energetic environments was the primary aim to all corners of the fitout.
Meeting rooms utilise lighting that is fine-tuned for VC, while large-format light sources provide the open work areas a feeling of both vibrancy and softness. The variety of characters for the open-plan workspaces are treated as unique elements, with a deliberate lighting approach to address each – but with a consistency of contrast and luminance.
Controls have been used to help the staff feel both connected to, and responsible for, their own environment. Effortless switching through proximity sensors to most spaces allow light where needed, while manual control options for various environments are provided for more specialist spaces.
The result is a working environment that feels every bit as advanced as the Transurban brand.
