We recently hosted a Spotlight breakfast talk in London that was titled  ‘Crafting Commercial Spaces and Places’.

There were inspiring and thought-provoking presentations from Peter Runacres from Argent and Michael Fern from Edge.

Peter shared some fascinating insights into what makes the King’s Cross development the runaway success that it has become.  He discussed the tenancy mix and how this has led to symbiotic relationships and has become one of the unique attributes of the development.

Michael made the case for the importance of a good brief and a strong concept in making memorable and inspiring environments.  He suggests that building owners should ask themselves searching questions about who they really are and how they wish to position themselves in the marketplace. The identification of this is the perfect starting point when it comes to conceiving a building project.

Electrolight’s Paul Beale discussed how the future of workplace lighting design can take a cue from the past, yet may be informed by emerging technology and a better understanding of the human circadian system.

One thing is for certain and that is that the workplace has changed and will continue to evolve at a rapid pace into the future and having progressive consultants is key to staying ahead.

We are very grateful to Helen Parton from the fabulous OnOffice magazine who hosted a panel discussion at the end. OnOffice are running an article on the event in their next issue so look out for that.
